Cherokee Nation calendar of events for the month of December

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation hosts several events in December, including the annual Christmas open house event at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex and “Christmas on the Square” event at the Cherokee National Capitol Square in Tahlequah. See all calendar items below.

Dec. 4

Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism showcases the “Letters of John Ross” exhibit at the John Ross Museum in Park Hill. Exhibit ends Dec. 29. For more information, call 877-779-6977 or visit www.visitcherokeenation.com.

Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism showcases the “First Cherokee Christmas” exhibit at the Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum in Tahlequah. The exhibit ends Dec. 29. For more information, call 877-779-6977 or visit www.visitcherokeenation.com

Dec. 7

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts a Christmas open house event at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex, located at 17675 S. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. The event will feature photos with Santa Mrs. Clause, your favorite Peanuts characters, information about Cherokee Nation programs and refreshments. For more information, call 918-453-5000. 

4 to 6 p.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts Christmas on the Square at the Cherokee National Capitol Square in Tahlequah. Children will be able to write letters to Santa and hot chocolate will also be available. First lady Sherry Baker will also read a special Christmas story at 5 p.m. at the Cort Mall. The Tahlequah Christmas parade will follow at 6:30 p.m.

5 p.m. - All Cherokee Nation Angel Project gifts are due back to the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. Items can be dropped off at Cherokee First in the lobby of the complex. For more information, call 918-453-5000.

Dec. 8

10:30 a.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program graduation at the Tahlequah Armory Municipal Center in Tahlequah. The 2018 class will be the third to graduate from the program since its establishment. For more information, call 918-453-5000, ext. 4995.

Dec. 17

6 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meeting at the W.W. Keeler Complex, 17675 S. Muskogee Ave., Tahlequah. For the agenda, visit http://legislative.cherokee.org

Dec. 21

5 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation Veterans Center hosts a Christmas Celebration at the center in Tahlequah. The celebration will include refreshments, games and Christmas carols led by Cherokee National Youth Choir Director MaryKay Henderson. For more information, call 918-772-4166.

Dec. 24-25

Cherokee Nation’s W.W. Keeler Complex, satellite offices and health centers will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday. Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital urgent care and emergency department as well as other Cherokee Nation emergency services will remain open.
